Essential to your Wellness Program

Making a Difference by helping to
build Healthier Communities

The mission of the Children's Health Initiative Program (CHIP) is to design, develop, implement, maintain and replicate, a community-based, grass-roots, no-cost elementary school-based healthy living program for children and their families.

Over 25% of all children are either overweight or obese, putting them at an increased risk for developing adverse medical problems as they get older. C.H.I.P. hopes to curb this trend by introducing students and their families to the positive benefits of healthy eating habits and physical activity. The programs mission strives to promote, develop, implement and maintain these healthy cardiovascular living ideas to children and their parents and to incorporate these virtues into their daily lives.

Childhood obesity tops the 2008 list of the biggest health problems for children in an annual public survey conducted by the C.S. Mott Children's Hospital's National Poll on Children's Health, University of Michigan.

The award winning Children's Health Initiative Program (C.H.I.P) is led by community health professionals in partnership with both school and business leadership. The 5 week CHIP program was introduced in 2004 as part of its demonstration project to 3rd to 5th grade students in the Royal Oak and Southfield Michigan public schools, with much success and enthusiasm from the students, parents and community members involved. There is no cost for your district to offer the CHIP program to your students. The CHIP model is standardized so it can be applied and expanded in every community at any age however it is flexible enough to be customized according to the needs of your community.

It has the potential of being emulated and applied within the H.S.A.T. modules in several school districts through their local school wellness councils utilizing the federally mandated Child Health Reauthorization Act of 2004 guidelines. We have an experienced mentoring team ready to "set the trajectory" for your district.

  • MANY C.H.I.P COMPONENTS CAN BE INTEGRATED AND CUSTOMIZED INTO EXISTING HSAT MODULE REQUIREMENTS THROUGH SCHOOL WELLNESS COUNCILS
  • ZERO COST TO SCHOOL DISTRICT

Progress in Preventing Childhood Obesity:
How do we measure up?

Childhood obesity is at epidemic proportions. Some experts believe that this generation will be the first one that has the terrifying potential to not outlive their parents due to the health problems that go hand in hand with obesity.
