Children’s Health Initiative Program
Honored for Innovations in Health Care
Lansing, Mich. – (May 4, 2009) – Children’s Health Initiative Program was honored by the National Kidney Foundation of Michigan (NKFM) on Tuesday, April 28, at the 11th Annual Lansing Champion of Hope Tribute Dinner.
Children’s Health Initiative Program received the Innovations in Health Care Award for their project that extols the virtues of good nutrition, effective physical education, and positive lifestyle modification for elementary school children ages 8-12 and their parents. The organization was among 13 applicants invited to present their noteworthy programs with a poster display at the Champion of Hope Tribute Dinner at the Kellogg Hotel and Conference Center.
The NKFM acknowledged programs that improve the lives of Michigan residents with diabetes, kidney or cardiovascular disease. Children’s Health Initiative Program was one of three applicants who received the Innovations in Health Care Award at the tribute dinner.
“We were very impressed by the quality and creativity of the innovative health care presentations.” said Daniel Carney, President and CEO of the NKFM.
Children’s Health Initiative Program’s (CHIP) winning entry focused on childhood obesity. It consisted of a five-week, healthy living education project delivered by teams of local physicians, dieticians, culinary experts, physical therapists, personal trainers, exercise physiologists and psychologists.
The NKFM also partnered with the Michigan Association of Health Plans, Michigan Health & Hospital Association, Michigan Osteopathic Association, Michigan Primary Care Association, and Michigan State Medical Society to acknowledge the applicants.
The mission of the National Kidney Foundation of Michigan is to prevent kidney disease and improve the quality of life for those living with it.
