Feedback from Parents on CHIP

Parent participants five their unsolicited endorsements:

Mrs.Tate's son is a fourth-grader at McIntyre and they're among more than 30 parents and kids who are spending five weeks learning about nutrition and physical fitness thanks to the Children's Health Initiative Program. 'It's given me a lot of great tips about how to get the right foods in his diet,' said Mrs. Tate of Lathrup Village.
—Detroit Free Press, March 2005

My 11 year old daughter, had a great time and learned a lot about nutrition and fitness. My daughter did not know what a Kiwi was until we did your grocery store tour. Thank you to Dr. Paul and his CHIP program. Please accept my thanks and appreciation for this great and sorely needed program.

Before I ask my question I just want to say that I have really enjoyed each session so far. I've learned many things about our eating habits that I've changed already. Just making small changes like eating a hand full grapes instead of cookie has made me better about our eating habits. The CHIP'S program has been very informative. We will be implementing many of the things taught in these sessions.

—Tom Shorkey, Former Superintendent Royal Oak Schools

What a wonderful idea, what a wonderful program! Our parents were involved, enthusiastic, and committed to getting themselves and their children into a healthier lifestyle. Week after week they attended, participated, and came away with activities and recipes that would change their life and the health of their children. Congratulations and thanks to Dr. Ehrmann and his staff on a nutrition and exercise program that has made a positive change for those families that took part.
—Greg Kubasiewicz, Principal, McIntyre Elementary School, Southfield School district, Demonstration Project 2005

It is exciting to see a physician take a leading role in encouraging healthy eating and physical activity within the school setting. Dr. Ehrmann's program is an example of how physicians can creatively engage schools to improve student health by encouraging students to eat healthier foods and be more active. I hope to see more physicians stand up and become leaders in promoting healthier school environments.

From the Business Community

To remain competitive, businesses must control costs, and health care continues to consume a significant amount of capital. Initiatives aimed at changing behaviors, and making the modifications will control such costs, and increase overall productivity. To that end, C.H.I.P. is part of the solution, and we support it wholeheartedly.
—Michele Hodges, Forty Under Forty Winner Crain's Business Detroit, President Troy, Michigan, Chamber of Commerce

Good health is good business. Rather than continuing to treat the many maladies stemming from obesity, the CHIP program works to prevent problematic behavior at an early age and instills lifelong patterns of good health. Its potential to change behavior, improve lives and reduce poor health is good news, good business and an important part of the solution to our health care crisis. I applaud Dr. Ehrmann, his CHIP initiative and his commitment to our community and children's good health.
—Jim Schneider, President, Royal Oak Chamber of Commerce
