By making dietary changes and making sure my 13-yr-old is getting at least 3 more solid hours of physical activity each week, CHIP principles has helped her lose 10 pounds since our last visit!!!

Mrs.Tate's son is a fourth-grader at McIntyre and they're among more than 30 parents and kids who are spending five weeks learning about nutrition and physical fitness thanks to the Children's Health Initiative Program. 'It's given me a lot of great tips about how to get the right foods in his diet,' said Mrs. Tate of Lathrup Village.
{xtypo_quote} On a personal note, I read the article re: the program you've been trying to get started. I thinks it's awesome & wish you great success. Kids need to go out & play tag instead of Nintendo.

I think that the CHIP is a worthy endeavor. You and the other instructors are great, and so is the food. I think it's great that you have taken this important initiative, and I hope it be contagious and spread throughout the state and country! The children are receiving valuable information during the sessions, and overall they are impressed by the importance of a healthy lifestyle.

One of our CHIP family participant writes:

I really did not know if this applied until she reached middle school this year. She is very aware of her body image (I know many 13 year old girls are concerned about this) and makes good choices on what food she puts in her body. By applying healthy living ideas she first learned with CHIP, she feels good about herself. As a parent, it makes me feel good that my daughter is able to sustain what she has learned and applied that in her daily life some two years later.

She is now an avid food label reader. She learned this skill initially from CHIP. We now go together to the grocery store and read them together. I hope she will take this skill into her adult life and apply it to her family.

She is now involved with swimming. She knows how important it is to take care of her body and how many calories she expends with these activities. Again, another skill she gained by her initial exposure with CHIP.
